The cure for the evils of
democracy is more democracy!
H. L. Mencken, Notes on Democracy, 1926
The axiom holds that “you just can’t make this
stuff up”.
Fair enough, but often absolute incredulity must be
expressed despite that the facts are indeed as one may find them.
President Obama has been accused by some being a
far left socialist with a deep distain for this nation, and that he has plans
to correct the inequities of history at any cost, even exhibiting a disgust of
the United States Constitution, labeling it nothing more than a series of
‘negative rights’ that only lists the protections of the people FROM the
government. He has stated he believes it should reflect what the government is
allowed to do for its citizens.
Others maintain that the President is a brilliant
constitutional scholar, given that he did indeed teach constitutional law for a
spell. Additionally, his supporters claim, that he is perhaps the most brilliant
inhabitant to ever reside in the White House.
{To that single point, consider this, from
President John F. Kennedy in his remarks before a dinner of Nobel laureates:
I want to tell you how welcome you are to
the White House. I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent,
of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House,
with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.
Enough said.}
Both extremes are of course nonsense, but the
American people should be stunned and aghast when the president of the United States
says things that border on the constitutional obscene. America has a rich
history of promoting freedom, and it must be noted that at the times in which America
has faltered from that mandate, our history books reflect those realities.
Given all that, there is little more the Madison
Conservative can say on the subject of stunned incredulity at the comments made
this week by President Obama.
His remarks speak for themselves, and are an
affront to millions of citizens who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend the principles
of the founders and the framers.
President Obama should be ashamed of himself for
these remarks, and should acknowledge his ignorance immediately.
To wit:
“...we discussed the fact that Ho Chi Minh was
actually inspired by the U.S.
Declaration of Independence
and Constitution, and the words of Thomas Jefferson.”
-- President Obama talking to reporters alongside
Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang.
